André Baum und Silvestre Preciado sind zwei interdisziplinäre, in Berlin lebende Künstler aus New York. Während der Berliner Art Week zeigt das Andreas Reinsch Projekt erstmals ihre experimentellen Fotografien.
Baum und Preciado schaffen ihre Bilder aus den chemischen Prozessen der Fotografie heraus und experimentieren mit ihrem Material um einen Ausgleich zwischen künstlerischer Kontrolle und dem Zufälligen herzustellen. Bei der Entwicklung ihrer Bilder verzichtet Preciado auf jede digitale Bearbeitung. Ihr Experiment besteht sowohl aus verschiedenen chemischen Prozessen die jede gedruckte Seite durchläuft, als auch malerischen Eingriffen und verzerrenden Linsen, die als Analogien zum politisierten, veränderten und Geburt gebenden Körper herangezogen werden.

Baums neue Arbeiten erforschen das Wesen von Beziehung, Erinnerung und dem Ich. Er zeigt undeutliche Momente auf abgelaufenem Film, Momente zwischen Künstler und Mentor die auf eine visuelle Konstruktion von intimen und flüchtigen Verbindungen hinauslaufen, unterstützt durch eine Klangarbeit und handgeschriebene Seiten die in Perioden von Übergang und Heimsuchung entstanden sind.

Suzy Royal ist unabhängige Kuratorin und Art-Consultant in Berlin. Sie hält ein MA des Courtauld Institute London und ein Doktorat der University of Southern California, Los Angeles, beide in Kunstgeschichte. Ihre weite Erfahrung in der Kunstwelt und des Kunstbetriebs sammelte sie durch Arbeit für das Getty Museum, das Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Auktionshäuser, Universitäten, Galerien und, zuletzt, für die non-profit Stiftung Enter Art Foundation, für die sie erfolgreiche Ausstellungen mit über 300 Künstlern aus der ganzen Welt in Europa und Deutschland kuratierte.

André Baum and Silvestre Preciado are two New York interdisciplinary artists based in Berlin who will debut experimental photographic works at Andreas Reinsch Project opening during Berlin Art Week.
Baum and Preciado create process-based photography and later experiment with the material to balance artistic control and chance. Preciado’s recent work is developed without digital enhancement. She experiments with transforming the printed page through a variety of chemical processes, painted intervention, and lens distortions that serve as an analogy to the politicized and transformed, birthing body. Baum’s new work is an investigation into the nature of relationship, memory, and self. Baum presents an expired film roll of obfuscated moments shot in places shared between the artist and his mentor, resulting in a visual construction of intimate yet elusive connections, further highlighted by a supporting sound piece and hand-written pages made during Baum’s time in transit and in visitation.

About the Curator:
Suzy Royal is an independent curator and art consultant based in Berlin. She holds an MA
from the Courtauld Institute in London and a PhD from the University of Southern California,
Los Angeles, both in art history.
With her international experience in museums such as the Getty Museum and Los Angeles County Museum of Art, auction houses, academia, galleries, as well as a non-profit art foundation, she has a deep understanding of the art world and the industry behind it. As head curator at Berlin’s Enter Art Foundation, she produced an exhibition series, including 300 emerging and mid-career artists from all over the world. Currently, she works primarily with emerging artists and runs an artist studio program in Berlin.
